Nature notes

On a recent trip to Uganda, I saw what looked like a snake.  In fact it turned out to be thousands of migrating caterpillars that formed a column in order to look like a snake.

Apparently it's a defence against predators.

So I did my David Attenborough bit and filmed it.

There's a political metaphor in that somewhere, something to do with Europe maybe...err.....nah its gone.

cmp - I'm trying desperately to complete the metaphor you're thinking of by using the "Ouroboros" myth. May take a while though.....

Perhaps the British people should form a column to protect itself from the snakes in parliament who continualy prey upon them and ignore their wishes.

pretty cool. saw a similar thing in Kibale forest, Uganda with a "safari" of ants. so many they looked like a liquid stream across the path. If you don't see them and tread in the column they will just keep crawling - onto you!
