Thank you, Spectator readers

A big, big thank you to any Spectator readers - you were kind enough to elect me the Readers' choice at yesterday's Spectator Parliamentarian of the Year awards.

I used my two minute acceptance slot to suggest that reforming Parliament isn't merely about fixing MPs expenses.  It's about making those in Westminster outwardly accountable to voters - too many today are only inwardly accountable to other SW1 people.

Really pleased to see Daniel Hannan pick up the award for that speech - two and a half million viewers.  And also delighted to see Andrew Tyrie pick up a prize.  He has, of course, been asking some interesting questions about supposedly man-made climate change.

Congratulations, glad I backed the winning side for once :)

On climate change:

Plimer made the Telegraph this morning

Delighted to hear that someone has. I can't find anything on Google - Can you point to any examples ?

Congratulations - very well deserved indeed!

I have the inkling that your and Daniel Hannan's co-authorship of 'The Plan' might have played a tiny role in these decisions.

Well done Douglas. A much deserved award.

Keep giving the buggers hell!!!

Since Hannan's abuse of his position as a rogue MEP in a position to abuse his right to extend hospitable welcome to Britain's Prime Minister he has played a role in putting the tory party in bed with nazi remembrance freaks and homophobes and flounced off again over the Chameleon no referendum in my political lifetime issue.

One can well understand his lionisation by Spectator readers. We all have our inner teenager.

Doesn't sound like a party anyone else will Actually Vote for at a General Election.

Quietzapple,

What a load of delusional, self righteous garbage!.Go and see your Doctor.

Go and look at the UAF - another organisation on the anti-semitic left

I'm not a member of the anti-semitic left.

Were he still with us you could ask an old bridge partner, treasurer of his rather conservative synagogue.

One judges accusations whence they come off course, Ilkley Moor likely in your eponymous correspondent's case I suspect, Douglas..

I had wondered if you and the Specki were spending too much time on Ilkley Moor with the wilder of the locals, Douglas . . .

"I'm not a member of the anti-semitic left."

I never said you were.

I simply pointed out that if you wanted to see real anti-semitism in Britain then you should look at UAF or their far left sister party the BNP.

By the way whilst Ilkley Moor is a marvellous place, its not my neck of the woods in Yorkshire. You're imagining a Yorkshire stereotype of the whippet, cloth capped Labour voter.
