City must quit complaining

City bankers whine that new EU Commissioner, Michel Barnier, might strangle our financial service sector with more regulation. The UK could lose its comparative advantage now that the man overseeing the rule book is a Frenchman, they suggest.

Quit complaining, chaps. The fact the Commissioner is French will make only a marginal difference.

Regulation is what the EU does. And this is the only EU on offer.

If you don't like it, have the courage to back calls to quit it.

I made a similar point

"More importantly though why is not the blogosphere a bit more upset that EU will now destroy the city of London and give its function to Paris. Well, first I think we all knew it would happen. Secondly, we have stopped being surprised anymore at the ubiquitous and eye-watering destruction of this country. But thirdly and this is why I am not particularly fussed, as the city starts to wither away, the EU will have pissed of yet another group of people adding to the very long list already who are converted eurosceptics; doctors, farmers, fishers, employers etcetera. I will just sit back over the coming years, with a cup of tea in my hand and watch the 'EU Referendum' camp grow stronger and larger by the day. What is more though, pissing of the people who generate 10% of this country's wealth is well, hmm, not a clever idea mostly because these people are a lot more powerful than you average farmer who, quite rightly, is fuming with anger and the CAP, has preciously few resources to go with that venom. A banker on the other hand... If he finds that an entity will harm his ability to generate a profit he will do something about it. He has the 'dough' as it were."

Well of course, Britain should be punished by her European neighbours for having a capitalist anglo-saxon economy.

We can't have competition in the Euro-zone now can we? It would be unfair if some countries were to have less regulation as it puts their rivals at a comparative disadvantage. This isn't allowed in the EU, diversity and competion are to be outlawed and replaced by weakened national identities and an acceptance of socialist principles without question.

Its time to get out.

Many of us do. More would do so if the costs were presented more clearly. Unfortunately, all three main parties dissemble about the costs.

I agree with you except for your last sentence which should read "If you don't like it, have the courage to join UKIP and back calls to quit it."

Hear! Hear! Why doesn't Douglas have the courage to quit the Europhilic Conservatives and join UKIP, at least until they have held a referendum on leaving the EU.

Quite Douglas,

The City has been one of the biggest backers of the EU project. Hoist by their own petard

"If you don't like it, have the courage to back calls to quit it."

Yes, do....

Your last sentance is quite right. As it is evident that McCameroon has no intention of doing anything about Europe, let alone holding a referendum on quitting, why don't you have the courage to leave the Tories and join UKIP?

"Nicolas Sarkozy hails EU shake-up a victory for France"

Nicolas Sarkozy has reignited the row over the appointment of European Union commissioners by branding Britain "the big losers".

Someone needs to do something soon, because this corrupt and undemocratic entity will destroy Britain's economy.

They've ruined agriculture and fisheries and now the City of London is next in line.

What the hell is going on when an unelected French establishment can decide what happens to Britains economy.

Better Off Out - its absolutely vital.
