April stats - traffic up 19% on previous month

14,070 people visited this site in April, and they read 21,962 pages.  If you were one of them, thank you.

On May 27th, I'll have been blogging for exactly one year.  Not yet the kind of traffic Guido or Dan Hannan get, but after 12 months I'm delighted to be as widely read as I am.

A friend and colleague, who was thinking of blogging, recently asked me why I made the effort.  Simple.  When was the last time 14,070 took much interest in what I'd said in the Commons chamber?

Douglas,
More power to you. Keep on keeping on. I wish my local tory MP had a blog worth reading ( I admit Damian has been a little busy recently what with him being under threat of being banged up)

I think it is us readers who should thank you Douglas. You have given me much to think about with your ideas, common sense and willingness to speak out.I would suggest your constituents should read your blog as a means of really getting to know their mp,much more of an honest insight than any party blurb. It is people such as yourself and Dan that give us hope that goverment is not totally corrupt and indifferent to us.
As Paul said,I only wish my mp was as conciencious and independantly minded and I look forward to many more years reading your blog.
Thankyou.

I doubt my tory MP will consider blogging unless he thinks it will improve his own career prospects.
He doesn't seem to have much to say to his constituents.
